About me

Hi  there,

I’m Eszter Monostori, the founder of The Urban Dog.

Dog training & teaching is my passion! Currently I share my life with two dogs, Freya and Vuk (Puppy). Read on if you would like to know more about me.

Why do I teach dog training?

Just like you, I walk down on busy streets with my dogs, cross fields with livestock on, we sit in cafes, the delivery turns up unexpected and a deer surprises us in the woods. I live with my dogs as family members and I want to care for them the best and keep them safe. I like to give my dogs freedom where possible and I love to see them having fun! I understand well the challenges this lifestyle brings and I practice what I teach every day.

Working as a dog trainer for 15 years I developed my sessions for the most fulfilling learning experience for both the dogs & people. I’m very proud that I’ve helped so many teams to transform their relationship for the better. The training sessions are friendly, fun, inclusive and I strive to be the best teacher for my human learners, too!

Working with behaviour cases like aggression, reactivity, resource guarding, anxiety, etc. daily I gained a broad perspective of understanding and how to help these cases. These experiences made me even more aware of the importance of prevention and the right preparation in puppies, as built in my courses .

I’m also active in dog sports and activities, at the moment my main focus is Mondioring with Puppy and Scent work, UKDS and Obedience with Freya. Having to train very precise exercises for performance level makes me a better trainer. I keep learning and make me work towards being a real team constantly. My dogs also help me creating my online courses, so we practice Cooperative Care often.

I love science, although I shifted away from Genetics (MSc), as it turns out sitting in a lab is quite hard for me, but covered with mud and dog slobber is what I like :D. But I haven’t stopped learning, I’m a ‘learning junky’ really, I love to understand topics to the core and learn from the best in the field. I can promise I will continuously expand my knowledge and always improve my methods.

Methods

Our dogs deserve fair treatment as we choose to bring them to live with us. I guide you to use motivation and clear communication to teach your dog to live with you and enjoy activities with you, while still serving the dog’s needs by understanding the bigger picture of being and learning as a dog. With smart and effective training the behaviours you need for this become possible. The training is reward based, and you might be surprised how much more that is that handling out treats!

Problem solving is my special skill and with my extensive experience with breeds, owners and issues, I often come up with creative solutions.
